HEIGHTS FOUNDATION

Heights Foundation Care is a quarterly opportunity for each of us to get personally involved in reaching those in need in our local neighborhoods.

We will be collecting, packaging and distributing to those who need it most. From winter coats and school supplies for children to personal care kits for our homeless neighbors, we are excited to share the love of Jesus in this practical way.

The Woodson Center exists to empower community-based leaders to promote solutions that reduce crime and violence, restore families, revitalize underserved communities, and assist in the creation of economic enterprise.

The Northwest Center is a crisis pregnancy center that seeks to promote the dignity of women and a respect for all human life by offering the loving support and comprehensive aid necessary to enable all women to continue their pregnancies, deliver healthy babies, and adequately care for themselves and their children.

She’s My Daughter is a movement of concerned men that explores comprehensive strategies aimed at creating safe communities for women and empowering survivors of violence to heal from their past harms.

So Others Might Eat is a nonprofit organization which seeks to help deal with poverty in Washington, D.C.. SOME provides food, clothing, and healthcare services to the poor and homeless. In addition, SOME provides job training, counseling, and low-cost housing, and other services to “break the cycle of homelessness”.

Friendship Place, located right in our neighborhood, is the premier housing service provider for people experiencing homelessness in the DC region. Their innovative, customized, person-focused programs empower participants to rebuild their lives, find homes, get jobs and reconnect with friends, family and the community.

Identity’s mission is to create opportunities for Latino youth and families to realize their highest potential. Identity’s primary focus is on assisting in-school and out-of-school Latino youth and their families who live in high poverty areas of Montgomery County and are most at-risk for poor academic and economic life outcomes.

Prison Fellowship believes that a restorative approach to prisoners, former prisoners, and all those affected by crime and incarceration can make communities safer and healthier.

A21 exists to end human trafficking in the 21st century. We financially and actively partner with this organization to support their work to raise awareness and provide solutions to end human trafficking.

Heights Scholarship exists to help fund students who are pursuing ministry by attending Bible college or ministry school. Our goal is to equip the next generation of pastors and leaders to build God’s Church.

Because everyone needs community, especially leaders. We believe every leader needs a Barnabas to believe in them. “Barnabas” means son of encouragement. Without Barnabas, the young Pharisee Saul might never have become the Apostle Paul. Without Barnabas, John Mark might not have gotten a second change and written the Gospel of Mark (Acts 4, 9, 15). The Barnabas Network is here to help leaders finish the race God has called them to run.

Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ. The organization serves the Church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In 2017, Citizen Heights funded the launch of a new Child Development Center in rural El Salvador giving sponsorship and hope to many children and families through Compassion’s programs.

Since 2017 Citizen Heights has supported the community of Eben Ezer Church in El Carrizal, El Salvador. Through your generosity and through Compassion International we’ve supported children who are learning about Jesus through the love and spiritual covering of Eben Ezer Church, as well as their families.

Rev. Dean & Dr. Cheryl Cowles have a vision to train 40 OB/Gyns by 2040.
Through medical and ministry missions, their goal is to train, empower, and equip Kenyan physicians and pastors. Cheryl is an obstetrician who trains Kenyan medical staff at Tenwek Hospital. Dean is a pastor who helps equip and train pastors and other community leaders. He also helps with orphan and chaplaincy ministries and serves as the field director of Friends of Tenwek, helping short-term visitors get the most out of their time at Tenwek and in the community.

In Kenya, and throughout much of Africa, vaginal births are conducted by midwives with various training and no pain control options. Maternal & perinatal mortalities are unacceptably high. Tenwek Missions Hospital seeks to increase the number of trained OB/GYN physicians to improve health outcomes for women and their babies.
Tenwek Mission Hospital has a 67-bed maternity ward, which is often fully occupied. Some common conditions treated at Tenwek include: intrauterine fetal demise, miscarriages, severe pre-eclampsia, advanced cervical cancers in 20-40 year olds, illegal abortion complications, severe anemias, massive fibroids and ovarian tumors – with many of these conditions compounded by multiple comorbidities. Tenwek Missions Hospital seeks to reverse high mortality rates, provide additional training for medical professionals and enable healthy pregnancies and births.

In 2023 Citizen Heights sent a missions team to the community of Tenwek to help build a path that the community had desired for forty years! This path is traveled daily by medical professionals, patients and community members. Through your generosity we purchased the supplies and equipment to build the path, hired a team of 13 locals for a week, and fully funded a year’s salary for a groundskeeper to maintain the park. This area is now known as Citizen Heights Park.

Compassion International is a child-advocacy ministry that pairs compassionate people with those who are suffering from poverty. The ministry releases children from spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty. The goal is for each child to become a responsible and fulfilled adult.

In 2023 Citizen Heights partnered with and hired 13 members from Calvary AGC to construct a path the community needed for forty years. Through your generosity, Citizen Heights also provided seed funding to support the construction of a new church floor, and seats for weekly gatherings. Partner with us as we continue to pray for and support this incredible congregation in Kenya!
